Design Approach

Every project is different, and I never know at the start exactly where we will end up with the design.  I look, think, research and sketch in order to come up with something that pleases the client, but also excites me. The landscape should change throughout the seasons and offer areas of interest and delight at all times.  Hardscaping, such as patios, walks and walls, often the most significant part of the project, should be a part of the whole picture and work with the plant material and architecture of the buildings. When the project is completed, my objective is that we have transformed space into a place you want to spend time and experience the wonder of nature.

Background:

I studied landscape design and horticulture at The New York Botanical Garden.  I am president of the New York Botanical Garden Landscape Design Alumni Student Association, a group which fosters professionalism and offers educational programs to landscape professionals, and a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.  My clients include several golf clubs (Winged Foot, Braeburn, Fenway, Sunningdale, Fairview, Scarsdale,) as well as homeowners in Westchester.

I love to garden, create places of beauty and help new or experienced gardeners to make the most of their space, so my volunteer work has included creating gardens for the Village of Scarsdale, the Ethical Culture Society  and the Scarsdale Library.  I also established a Scholarship Fund at the New York Botanical Garden.

My work has been featured in the Scarsdale Inquirer, Westchester Home and Westchester Magazine (where I was chosen as one of the eight top designers in the area).  My garden as well as several of my clients’ gardens have been included on local garden tours.

Services:

Typical projects will include a design that incorporates plant material as well as other features such as walls, lighting, fencing, water and walkways.  I design as well as supervise all aspects of the project and advise on aftercare of the newly installed areas.  I work with landscape contractors who do all masonry, grading, pruning, soil preparation and planting.  Sometimes we will also need to bring in subcontractors, in which case I will recommend appropriate specialists.  After the project is completed, you may want to have me come back periodically to fine-tune the landscape.
